Becoming A Freemason
With over 250,000 Freemasons in England and Wales, spread through over 8,000 Lodges, it is more than likely that you will never have to look far to find a Lodge to join. You will also discover that every Freemason you speak to will have a slightly different reason for why they joined. One thing you can be sure of is that no matter if you have just joined or have been a member for over 50 years, the person sat next to you will have similar life values and a genuine desire to do what they can for good causes.
“I WANTED TO BECOME A FREEMASON TO MEET A CROSS SECTION OF PEOPLE, MAKE LONG LASTING FRIENDSHIPS AND HAVE FUN!”
What you must remember is that although Freemasons adhere to high moral standard, Freemasonry is a hobby and therefore needs to be enjoyable. To put it bluntly, if we didn’t enjoy being Freemasons we wouldn’t do it.
In becoming a Freemason you naturally widen your social circle and become friends with people that you may not have met during the normal course of life.
“FREEMASONRY DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE ON GROUNDS OF RACE, COLOUR, RELIGION, POLITICAL VIEWS OR SOCIAL STANDING.”
It has often been thought that you have to be wealthy or be a professional man to become a Freemason. This is just not the case and at King Edward 7th Lodge we enjoy the company of builders, lawyers, healthcare workers, people from the financial services industry, digital media and retired people to name but a few. Freemasonry is not interested in the six of you wallet but you as a human being and not only what you can bring to the Lodge but what the Lodge can give to you.
What to do now?
At King Edward The 7th Lodge, we see ourselves as being a progressive and friendly body of men who enjoy talking to people about Freemasonry and explaining why we enjoy it so much.
There is a common misconception that you have to be invited to join Freemasonry by another Freemason, but this is just not the case. We welcome enquires and membership requests from men who have previously had no direct contact with Freemasonry and have a general interest in the work that we do along with wanting to be a part of a wonderful and global society.
If you have an interest in Freemasonry in Manchester and would like to speak to one of our members we would be more that happy to make arrangements and accommodate you. The first thing to do is send us a confidential email with your contact details and a short message so that we can organise a meeting and talk things through with you. All of us at King Edward The 7th Lodge found that talking through Freemasonry with a member was a great help in making the decision to join. There is no pressure to join us and we would hope that you took the time to meet other members of the Lodge, join us at a dinner and see for yourself what Freemasonry is all about.
